Top 10 Games we are excited to play in 2019!

We just wanted to let you know about some great things on the horizon from, not only Machination Games, but other amazing publishers in the new year! Here's a list of what we are excited to play in 2019.

#10: Betrayal Legacy

This game designed by Rob Daviau and published by Avalon Hill was actually released in November 2018, but since the holidays were so busy, we haven't gotten a chance to play it yet! After such success and fun we had playing Pandemic: Legacy we can't wait to see what twists and turns this haunted mansion has in store. Betrayal Legacy consists of a 13 chapter story that represents your decedents' history at the house for over decades. Each player represents a family member and then later on in that person's life (if they happen to live) they go back to the house (for some reason?). It should be fun to see how the story builds upon itself, and if the "haunts" are more evenly balanced than the first version "Betrayal at House on the Hill" (2004).

#9: Wizard Words

Next on our list is an interesting looking party game! Wizard Words, designed by Jeff Lai and Published by Cryptozoic Entertainment, will be a real-time co-operative word game that requires strategic teamwork and focus. One player will give one-word clues while the other players remember past clues while coping with Hexes that try to trip the players up. Even though there is not a lot of info about this game, the fact that it is about magic and words has our interest. Also it looks like it comes with a wand! Sign us up!

#8 : Power Grid (Recharged)

Coming in at number eight is a reboot of the original game "Power Grid (2004)" from Rio Grande Games. Being ranked 35 overall on Board Game Geek, "Power Grid" has been on our "need to play" list for awhile, but we may have to wait for this new version to hit the shelves! The object of this game for those that haven't played the original, is to supply the most cities with power when someone's network gains a predetermined size. However in this "recharged" version players will mark pre-existing routes between cities for connection, and then bid against each other to purchase the power plants that they use to power their cities.

#7: Sagrada: The Great Facades - Passion

"Sagrada (2017)" quickly became one of our "go to's" for a quick game that has a good balance of strategy, fun, and relaxation. In this game, each player uses colorful dice drafting to construct a stained glass window masterpiece. It seems that Floodgate Games is coming out with a series of expansions that will add on to the original game! Each part of the expansion contains new modules of content that players can add individually or together with their games of Sagrada. This version, Sagrada: Passion introduces inspiration cards, rare glass dice and cards, rare glass private objectives, and symmetry public objectives. Meaning it is just going to add into the fun of being a skilled artisan! We can't wait to try out this new expansion!

#6: Batman: Gotham City Chronicles

In this new Batman themed miniatures game, one villain faces off against a team of heroes in one of multiple scenarios. Each hero has their own character, and they control this character by spending energy to perform actions. The villain controls a team of henchmen and iconic villains in the Batman universe. While we are not often interested in many miniature games, the art for this one looks amazing - even for those that do play such games!

#5: Nintendo Switch: Digital Board Game Releases!

While not actually table top games, these board games are being brought to the Nintendo Switch Console and we cannot wait! Carcassonne is already available in the Nintendo shop and the others are set to release sometime in 2019. We are told these releases will include: The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game; Munchkin; Pandemic; & Catan: Universe! We hope to see even more digital board games on the horizon and Nintendo's Switch is a perfect platform for them!

#4 T.I.M.E STORIES: Madame

T.I.M.E. STORIES has been an all-time favorite of ours this past year! We have loved playing this thematic time travel game expansion after expansion, and it seems that this new one will be another great episode! We highly recommend getting copy of the base game and playing all of the scenarios through. It is a narrative game of "decksploration." Each player is a temporal agent of the time agency. Each mission the players are sent into bodies of beings from different worlds or realities to successfully complete the missions assigned to them! With a groundhog day clock setting the time back each attempt to complete the mission, you start to learn which places to go and how to get through the mission in the smallest number of time units. With a continuing story line each session, its crutial to play this with a dedicated group! Being set it 1673, Madame is "Space Cowbow's" tenth scenario and promises to "shake things up." We truly can not wait!

#3: Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

This new game from Krzysztof Piskorski & Marcin Świerkot looks pretty epic! We love new cooperative adventure games and that is just what this is! It blends Arthurian legends and Celtic mythology with a unique vision. Here is a summary from the publisher "Awaken Realms."

In a land slowly sinking into the Wyrdness and torn apart by conflict; surviving each day is a challenge on its own. Starvation, sickness, violent weather, and random incidents all conspire to end your journey. Guardian Menhirs, that ensured safe travel throughout the realm, are slowly going dark turning simple logistics into an involving puzzle. To overcome these challenges, your character develops along several conflicting lines, such as Brutality / Empathy or Practicality / Spirituality. These traits unlock a rich choice of mutually exclusive skills and lead to different deck-building strategies, making character advancement meaningful and deep.

#2: Greenville 1989

Another cooperative game makes our list! Designed by Florian Fay and Art by David Sitbon brings us this supernatural themed game! Each player represents a character who has experienced some strange events. They must describe them to their fellow players, who must then locate this character and save them before the time runs out! This lead role changes each round, giving everyone the chance to be lost or found -- and you want to be found, or else the group is pulled closer to the void engulfing the town that threatens to consume you all. We are super eager to try this one when it comes out!

#1 Machinations: The Wizard Character Expansion

As you may have guessed, we are most excited about this expansion to our game Machinations: A Game of Devious Schemes! This expansion will include the wizard character, which adds a whole new element to game play! During the game, the wizard will be casting spells on their opponents in attempt to complete their machination. These spells sometimes put a damper on or can even help other players' objectives. This new expansion is set to release in May and also comes with eight new locations, seven spell rings, a spell card, and the ability to play with up to seven players! Make sure to check back here for more.
